Perfect Ambient Song Toolkit
Dont get fooled by price or footprint ! This is a Toolkit for writing a complete ambient song (apart from some pad, bass and drums you might like to add). Absolutely easy to use but with some highlights like the "humanize" function. And what I really been after a long time: the sounds just fit perfectly together, so add a master patch (which is kind of multi inside one instrument, comparable to the Photosynthesis engine but much easier to use) for setting the general athmosphere of your song , some instruments from the three included categories for some tracks and your done for setting up a perfect ground for an ambient song. The sounds are highly specialized on that but of course you can use the sounds individually for example the bells or a nice soft lead guitar in a pop/folk song or a ballad. But the intention is specific, so if you want to write EDM or Metal this is definitely not your first choice :-). For me this specialization is absolutely perfect, have been looking long for something like this.
Above the average economical ambient flood
Lush Atmosphere impresses me as a big improvement over Lush Forest (Sampleism). Four clean GUIs, one of which serves up the other GUIs as three voices which are individually leveled and panned but filtered, enveloped, effected and "humanized" en masse. Snapshots for the default master patch, nki patches for the other three GUIs. Filter and Envelope controls are nicely effective, the TUNE control appears to smoothly affect tuning and timbre, and the reverb and chorus EFFECTs appear to have pleasantly usable preset characteristics. No numeric readouts---it's all about the ears, baby! It was easy to coax more string sounds or more bell tones from stRings patches as needed and even subtle reed, woodwind, choir and formant overtones presented themselves. The HUMANIZATION controls appear to be a triggered detuning (Tune) and triggered panner (Pan) with velocity and volume levels for the overall effect---which can go from subtle to ear-catching because everything just seems to work well together. The sounds/samples definitely sound cleaner, with more controllable overtones, than those in Lush Forest, and they remind you of Arctic Strings and the original Mountains. I did get some puzzling single-note responses in an Elements patch but I couldn't call them a deal breaker (the back-end of Kontakt is completely accessible). Read Richard's review. It's not the be-all end-all ambient library but, in its niche, it works simply, quickly and well, solo and in concert---the marks of a good tool.
Live's upto it's "Lush" title - beautifully drenched in shimmer and verb. Bargain price for a snack sized ambient library.
