Version: Kontakt 5.5 / NCW / V1.2
Soundscape Tapeloop Sequencer
Download Method: Kontakt Hub
Chordscape is an ambient infinite tape playback machine designed to create evolving modulated dark ambient soundscapes but can be used for all sorts of different sound design scenarios.
Chordscape is now at Version 1.2 with many new features and snapshots included. Updates inculde:
Chordscape contains 8GB of sound designed content derived from acoustic instruments, natural recordings, sound design, outboard effects and synthesizers. Each sound has been carefully created from scratch to fit the engine and philosophy of the library by our good friend Erick McNerney.
There are 4 sound sources, an inbuilt browser system, 4 dedicated sequencers and multiple assignable effects
The unique feature of Chordscape is that it is designed to emulate a tape machine. Once you start the Chordscape engine running you can create movement by modulating and automating parameters as it plays. This gives incredibly unique evolving sounds that never stop!
With 4 sounds sources, each with 13 sound categories you could get lost in Chordsape for days. All sounds are accessible using the pop-up browser system and mixer settings are retained per sound.
Chordscape allows nearly every single control to be modulated over time.
With a dedicated pop-up modulation system with between 4 and 128 steps per conrol it is possible to create pulses, stepped sequences or long smooth progressions and adjust the speed individually for every control.
If you don't know how to use snapshots in Kontakt then you don't know what you are missing. They load quicker, can be organised better and shared easier than using a bunch of nkis.
Chordscape ships with 421 snapshots in 10 different categories to get you started. Categories are:
Please ensure you place the snapshots in the correct location on your computer to get the most out of Chordscape.
Please refer to the documentation and our FAQs for more details.
Chordscape can be used in many different ways but it excels at creating infinite ambient soundscapes, pads and moving textures. Once you start Chordscape running it never stops, it will run forever and can be made to never repeat itself. For this reason Chordscape is truly in a league of it's own.
We've used it to generate chilled-out, spaced-out ambience for hours on end. We've gone to the shops and come back to find it still churning out never heard before sounds.
We love Chordscape and we think you will too.
Chordscapes contains 4 Send FX slots, each slot can be populated with 1 of 5 FX. Each channel can then send the signal to each slot.
This makes it very easy to quickly swap effects on the fly without having to re-assign them for each source.
Go even deeper using the Chordscape 4 channel sequencer.
If modulation isn't enough then you can also sequence each sound source individually and snap each sequence to a desired scale. There are 55 different sequencer patterns included to get you started.
"With Chordscape you can produce luxuriant, empathetic and individual evolving sound for your projects that require ambient, drones, film-scoring or atmospheric tension. Chordscape key feature is that it is designed to emulate a tape machine where sounds are played and you can then take it further to create movement, modulate and mangle the sounds by different parameters that can be automated. Chordscape includes also great tape saturation and emulation that come with different choices to change the sounds produce"

"One of the key selling points for me was that the sound is constantly evolving and Chordscape never plays the same sound twice. On the surface, that may sound like an issue of not being able to obtain a repeatable pattern but for the most efficient uses of the library I think it is right on the money."

"I have NEVER EVER seen such an update for such a new and innovative instrument, seems it is just exploded from an ambient pad machine to kind of a whole dreamy pad ambient workstation with everything including some marvellous leads. And all playable as a "real" instrument and new sequencer presets too......"

Introductory price was great. Download and installation were pretty straight forward, and provided instructions were good. Note that there are a total of 6 .rar files to download, and the instructions say you only have to extract "part 1". This is not exactly what I experienced. It was necessary to extract part 1 as you would expect, and also the "main" .rar file, then combine the outcomes. Not a big deal.I had a chance to sample several of the included snapshots this morning, as well as create a few of my own. I'm very impressed with the sonic quality and intuitive user interface. Over the past few years, I've purchased a number of Kontakt instruments intended for use in creating these ambient soundscapes. To date, this one is the best I've come across.Highly recommended.
chock full of interesting soundscapes ! very nice !
I had lots of critics on the 1.0, mainly that "playability" was very limited. Now I am really, really stunned what these folks did in that short time for creating such a unique kind of "all in one ambient workstation" out of it in version 1.1. Thats (for me) kind of unbelievable. They implemented all of the requests (and that were a lot...) and if thats not enough they added additional snapshots (even some leads...), they added sequence presets for the sequencers and and....Really more then welldone ! Now if you have any work for an ambient kind of workstation, this is the one !Get it before the intro offer is over, I am sure it wont get any deals in the near future, just too much incredible work in this one.Hope they wont never ever update this again, I am afraid I cant stand a 1.2 :-)))))

Very easy to give this five stars. This is just one of those instruments in a creative class by itself. The more you play around with it, the more you want to use it. I always was a Channel Robot fan but this collaboration has also made me a big fan of Divergent Audio Group (I may wait for a sale but I AM purchasing Fameboy, Helios and Invasors). I agree with what everyone else has said so far and Richard has an excellent point: user feedback seems to be valued and acted on by the Divergent Audio Group, and I think their influence is pandemic here at Kontakt Hub (note the HeadPhase update). There are just too many quality bargains here to be accidental and Chordscape is definitely one of them, worth more than its full price and an absolute bargain on sale.
At a first explore is a generative soundscape instrument inside a Kontakt instrument. Intuitive and instantly playable with mysterious and evocative textures. More "Drony" than "Chordy" in my opinion. After a walkthrough to the snapshots, (some of them delightfull) i began to modify and tweak his step-modulators, then started with a INIT empty patch. In 10 minutes i ve created a totally new one. Maybe could be useful through the keyboard wich in merely a 4 channel and master play/mute trigger, and could include a lead melodic channel to play melodies. A little bit more melodic without loss his "chordal" for new updates. Maybe I don´t found the way to do that yet; but if such is the case could be more intuitive as the rest of the interface. I´m glad with it.
chordscape gives me an atmosphere which is something I always love when creating hiphop music. With the right combinations I can give my tracks a melodic/ethereal feel without having to worry about sample clearing or things of that nature. totally worth the purchase price.
